Groups 1, 2 & 3 organise 4 to 5 mile walks taking 2.5 hours in various areas.
Group 4 is known as “Walking 4 Shorter Walks” and organises 2 mile walks at a slower pace for those who want exercise but do not feel up to the longer walks.
Group 5 is the Longer Walks Group and will organise walks of around 9 miles, undertaken at a fairly brisk pace, and expected to last 3 to 3.5 hours with a 15 minute break. The aim is to build up a repertoire of some 8 to 10 walks which over time will reduce the need for recces to be carried out. Variations on a standard walk will become the norm. The walks will be within 15 miles or so of Leighton Buzzard. Expect some hills and soft going.
In each Group the Members take turns at organising and leading a walk.
Interested in finding new walks? You might try the website www.walk4life.info suggested by the U3A Walking Network. Walk4Life is part of the Change4Life movement that has been set up to encourage families and adults to eat well, move more and live longer, by making small lifestyle changes that add up to big health benefits. To find a walk, search by post code or the name of the area. There are thousands of walks listed including many local to our area.
